Employee or Subcontractor?
They may look alike, but don't confuse them.
Employers often use subcontract labor as a means of reducing company costs. Subcontractors require fewer of the expenses that come with employees, such as payroll taxes, benefits, training, and equipment expenses. The use of subcontract labor also may reduce an employer’s insurance costs in cases where the premium is determined by a worker’s employment status, such as workers’ compensation, which only extends coverage to workers meeting the definition of “employee.” [ more ]
