2006: New Legislation Takes Effect
One of the hottest insurance topics of 2006 was HB 7, the bill that dismantled the Texas Workers’ Compensation Commission and made major changes to the way workers’ comp is handled in Texas. As we reported in March last year, the most significant of these changes was the introduction of a medical network option, which represented an opportunity to reduce claim costs and, in some cases, obtain a premium discount. By the end of 2006 many workers’ comp carriers, including Service Lloyds, had begun offering the network option.
